Aquamarine is the birthstone of March. Aquamarine comes in virtually all shades of blue, varying from sky blue to deep, ocean blue. Occasionally, this blue gemstone can sometimes appear to be a bit green.


Why an aquamarine?

Literally translated, aquamarine means “water of the sea” or “sea stone”. The myth of this birthstone tells that aquamarines come from the treasure chests of mermaids. They would bring love and happiness and cure a sore throat, rhinitis and autoimmune diseases.

Origin of the aquamarine

The name aquamarine comes from the Latin words “aqua” and “marina”, which mean “water” and “sea”. The myth tells that the stone was widely worn by seafarers to protect them from the dangers of the seas. The color of aquamarine would resemble the colors of the seas and oceans. The aquamarine as a gemstone from the treasury of the mermaids, were to have a positive effect on your love life. It would bring happiness and harmony in your life and should do wonders for your marriage. The gem has a positive effect on heart, liver and throat. Moreover, it has a positive effect on sleep because the stone seems to have a soothing effect.

Aquamarine is the birthstone of March but is also known as a gemstone of Gemini, Aquarius, Pisces, and Libra. It is also the stone that belongs to the 19th marriage anniversary. Aquamarine is mainly found in Brazil, Madagascar, Pakistani and Zimbabwe.

The aquamarine color suits everyone, regardless of their hair color, eye color or skin color. The stone is a variety of beryl, which the emerald also belongs to. The color of the water-colored stone varies from blue-green to bright light blue.
