When you are going to buy a watch, there are many points to consider. The look and feel and the price range are part of your decision. Or take the different timepieces. Most watches are quartz or automatic, but what's the difference? Why do they differ in price? What makes a quartz a quartz watch? In this blog, you will find the answers.

What is the main difference between a quartz watch and an automatic watch?

The main difference is the way the watch is powered. A quartz watch is powered by a battery, while an automatic timepiece is powered by the movement of the wrist. Due to the excellent technology and amazing craftsmanship, most watch collectors prefer an automatic watch above a quartz watch.

How does a quartz watch work?

As you have read before, a quartz watch is powered by a battery. This battery sends electrical shocks through a piece of crystal quartz that vibrates 32768 times per second. These constant vibrations provide a pulse per second that drives the motor and makes the watch hands move.

The release of the quartz watch

The quarter watch was released in 1969 and threatened the production of automatic watches. The brand-new technique was a huge success, as more watch brands got started with quartz watches and created a new era of battery-powered watches.

How does an automatic watch work?

An automatic watch is powered by the natural movements of the wrist. The movements cause the rotor to turn. The rotor transfers energy to the mainspring, which causes the clockwork to be wound up. The internal reserves keep the watch ticking even when you take the watch off.

What are the benefits of a quartz watch?

The biggest benefit of a quartz watch, besides being relatively affordable, is the fact that you don’t have to wind it up. A quartz watch requires fewer adjustments and maintenance. Another huge benefit is that a quartz watch is a lot more accurate in time, so if you want to know the exact time per second, a quartz watch is the best option for you.

What are the benefits of an automatic watch?

An automatic watch is a lot more expensive in terms of production. Hence, there is a price difference. Although they are less accurate than a quartz watch, a mechanical watch has the advantage that you don’t have to replace the battery. They also generally last for generations, tell a story, and are stable in value. This is due to the craftsmanship with which automatic watches are made.
