Valentine’s Day at Home

February 11, 2021

When it comes to celebrating Valentine's Day, it's important to make the day extra-special for your loved one. There's the traditional romantic dinner and exchange of homemade Valentine's Day gifts, of course, but what if you want to do something a little more creative to create a one-of-a-kind experience? Luckily, there are many great things to do on Valentine's Day this year, whether you're looking to go on a romantic date with your Valentine or you're planning a fun night with friends.

For a memorable way to spend the sweetest holiday of the year, simply choose a fun activity from our list, which spans everything from watching the best Valentine’s Day movies on the couch to cute romantic date ideas that will guarantee an evening of romance. Even with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic restricting some of our activity options this year, it’s easy to make this February 14th a night to remember with the help of some of these fun, unique activities. Because who wouldn’t want a truly memorable night full of romance?

Cook each other’s favorite meal.

Does your sweetheart love stuffed peppers? Do you crave crème brulee? Trade each others’ recipes. There’s something special about working together to create a meal you’ll both enjoy. Plus, when your Valentine’s Day dinner is cooked with love, it tastes even better than a meal in a star quality restaurant.

Make It a Spa Night

Help your loved one unwind on Valentine’s Day with a surprise spa night. Put together a Valentine’s Day spa date basket filled with special heart-shaped soaps and bath bombs, scented bath salts, and soft red or pink body sponges. Make your home as relaxing as possible with dimmed lights, soft music, and these simple yet calming experiences:

  • Draw a hot bath filled with stress-reducing items, such as a few drops of lavender essential oil, and drop in a few rose petals for an extra Valentine’s Day touch.
  • Give your bathroom a romantic spa vibe with flickering candles, glasses of wine, and heart-shaped chocolates by the side of the tub.
  • Offer a massage or a foot rub including a scented exfoliating rub, a body oil, and a moisturizer.
  • Warm a set of plush and luxurious towels in the dryer and have them waiting nearby.

Have a Game Night

For those with a competitive streak (or those who just like some good, old-fashioned fun), an exciting night of board games is the perfect way to make Valentine’s Day memorable — especially when there’s wine involved!

There are many games you can play with just the two of you, such as card games, quizzes to get to know each other better or maybe Jenga with tasks written down on the blocks.

Write each other love letters

Whoever said that romance is dead is in serious need of a love letter. Take a page from your grandparents and spend time expressing why you love your partner. Not in a note on your phone, and not in an Instagram caption (though you certainly can do that, too)—on paper, in pen. Then, trade letters, or read them out loud to one another.

Surprise your partner with a backyard picnic

There’s something romantic about a picnic for two. If you live in a mild climate, create a backyard picnic and stargaze with your sweetheart.

Layout a quilt or blanket and feast on a variety of portable foods, such as wine, fruits, veggies, cheeses, and cold cuts. If the weather outside is frightful, you can host a picnic indoors by candlelight or by the fireplace. Layout a blanket and pillows to make it cozier.

Cuddle up and watch a movie

There’s no better excuse than Valentine’s Day to snuggle under a blanket and watch a romantic movie. Go for a romantic movie, thriller, or maybe even horror. If you want to make your night more personal, you could snuggle and watch home movies or look through old photo albums.

Create art together

Tap into your creative side and make some artwork, together as a couple. You could create a collage of photographs of each other, write a poem together or gather some paints and a canvas and paint a romantic image. No matter what you create, display it as a reminder of your love for one another.

Of course, these ideas also work for date nights at home, not just on Valentine’s Day. So keep them handy year-round to celebrate the person you love the most in the place you love the most.
