Our Legacy

Her majesty’s diamond watch

Royal Coster Diamonds has always had a close relationship with royals around the world. Based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the bond between Royal Coster Diamonds and the Dutch Royal House is even more special. Therefore, being part of designing a diamond watch for v is still one of the highlights in our rich and royal history.

Our Legacy

A diamond watch
for your birthday?

A diamond watch for your birthday isn’t something you expect, even if you have royal blood running through your veins. In 1959, the late Queen Juliana celebrated her 50th birthday. Modest as she always was, Queen Juliana insisted she wouldn’t be spoiled with a great gift.

Our Legacy

A diamond watch
as a National Gift

For once, the Queen’s orders were not obeyed, as she received a stunning diamond watch as a National Gift. Designed by P.F. Belkum from Steltman jewellers, the clock was made by Jaeger-LeCoultre, one of Swiss top luxury brands. The clock mount itself has a platinum base. Any room left for diamonds then?

Our Legacy

The diamond watch at its finest hour

Royal Coster Diamonds had the great honour of producing the absolute highlight of the watch. Ben Meier, one of our famous diamond polishers and later owner of Royal Coster, cut a sensational number of 275 small diamonds to be incorporated in the diamond watch. If you see the result you realize that it must have been one of the finest displays of jewellery craftsmanship in history.

Our Legacy

Where is the
diamond watch these days?

Queen Juliana wore the diamond watch frequently. However, from 1980, when her successor Queen Beatrix was crowned, the diamond watch was not seen for quite some time. It was believed that Queen Beatrix followed the strict etiquette that it wasn’t appropriate to wear a watch at a royal occasion. Luckily for its admirers, Queen Maxima reintroduced the diamond watch in 2006. Since then she wears it regularly for different occasions. It still makes us a little bit proud every time we see those diamonds shine around her wrist!
